Get to Know... Amanda Bennett

Mid-century inspired images take on new meanings in Amanda Bennett's 2D mixed media works which combine digitally created images with original acrylic paintings.

One of a Kind:  What are you bringing to the show this December?

Amanda:  Original large scale to small scale paintings, limited edition prints and love!

One of a Kind:  What inspires you and your work?

Amanda:  My main artistic influences are John Michele Basquiat and Andy Warhol.  I love the simplicity and familiarity of the subjects in Warhol's work.  Basquiat, well, he was just a mad genius!  I'm also inspired by street art/graffiti and the texture it take on as its painted over with another tag or attempted to be covered up by someone trying to remove it all together.  

One of a Kind:  How did you get started?

Amanda:  I painted with my grandmother when I was younger.  After college, I was broke and trying to decorate my newly acquired loft.  So, I decided I would create the art myself.  Friends would come over and ask me to create something for them.  Several years later, I decided to give it a go full-time.

One of a Kind:  If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

Amanda:  At one time, I attempted being a rock star... maybe I would give that another go.  Ha!  O maybe I would just try being a team mascot of some sort.
