Gedion Nyanhongo Sculptures

  • New Artist
In these modern, fast paced times, Gedion Nyanhongo’s soulful sculptures bring a sense of peace. Focusing not on the outside world, but instead on the most important issues the lives of all humanity: love, family, beauty and nature. Gedion passionately transforms hard and enduring stone into sculptures that capture all that is good and worth preserving in the world around us. “I believe sculpture has the capacity to lift people’s spirits in a way that can make their lives better.” Deceptively simple and flowing sculptures, created out of the hardest stone, carved completely by hand, are the hallmarks of Gedion’s expressive sculpture. His imagination is influenced by each stone he chisels into. “The stone calls to me, telling me what it wants to become. I remove what doesn’t belong.” He carves, chisels and hones each piece over many, many hours and only by his hand. Each sculpture is one of a kind. Stone sculptor Gedion Nyanhongo was born into an artistic family on December 22, 1967 in Nyanga, Zimbabwe, Africa. He was influenced from a young age by his father, Claud Nyanhongo, a prominent sculptor and one of the pioneers of the Shona Sculpture Movement of Zimbabwe, Africa, that began in the late 1950s. Gedion lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona & Fostoria, Ohio
