Get to Know... Lucie Piedra + Meg Oliver
03 . 22 . 2018
One of a Kind: Describe your work.
Lucie and Meg: We make colorful, modern, items for the home and garden. All of our work is highly functional, yet can also be enjoyed as sculptural pieces.
One of a Kind: When and why did you decide to become artists?
Lucie: I don’t think I seriously thought of any other career choices. Since kindergarten, art is the only thing that I really enjoyed and excelled at.
Meg: I briefly entertained the idea of being a curator, and found that something was missing. It took a walk of the Appalachian Trail to realize that, fundamentally, I just need to make things.
One of a Kind: What are you bringing to the Spring Show?
Lucie: We’re bringing a mixture of larger sculptural items and smaller functional work like bud-vases, planters and mugs.
Meg: And Lighting! We’ve just finished our first line of pendant lights & we are very excited to show them.
One of a Kind: What's the best advice you've ever gotten?
Lucie: Inspiration comes in a whisper. You have to spend some time being quiet with yourself to hear it.
Meg: Most often the worst thing about something is also the best thing about it.
One of a Kind: What is your favorite part of doing what you do?
Lucie: The act of making quiets my brain and time doesn’t move the same way, its very liberating.
Meg: My intrinsic nature is to ask questions, solve puzzles, discover truths and beauty. Designing new pieces within the framework of function is all of that and more.
